I am the founder of Mike Young Academy, which helps scientists, university staff and communications professionals with the effective use of social media. I have held practical workshops throughout Europe and – via webinar – on four of the globe's seven continents (I still need South America, Africa and Antarctica!). Mike Young Academy also delivers social media network analyses for universities called 'social media audits': We map out a university's researchers on social media + their surrounding networks on multiple platforms — then we find opportunities and gaps that universities can help the researchers make use of.

In 2023, I was invited to be keynote speaker at the EUPRIO conference in Vienna. That was nice!

I am the former editor of the the University of Copenhagen's news portal University Post, and still have a role in the Danish-language Uniavisen. As editor of University Post I have fond memories of EUPRIO's conferences in Aveira (2009), Stresa (2010) and Kent (2013).

My book 'Social Media For Research Impact — how scholars can share ideas, build networks, and make a difference' (co-authored with Marcel Bogers, a scholar of open innovation) will be out in January 2026.

Outside work, I live in Hillerød, north of Copenhagen, with my wife and two sons. My adult daughter lives close by.
