Uwe Steger (born 1962 in Erlangen), completed his political science studies at the University of Innsbruck in 1992. During his studies he worked as a freelancer for various advertising agencies and in 1994 he took over the development and management of public relations at the University of Innsbruck. Between 2004 and 2008 he moved to the Medical University of Innsbruck where he was also responsible for the development of public relations. Since 2008 he has been back at the University of Innsbruck, where he again heads the Public Relations Office, which, in addition to press and public relations work, also includes the Event Service, Student Counselling, Student Marketing and the Children's University of the University of Innsbruck. Steger is co-founder and chairman of UNI.PR, the public relations network of Austrian universities, and was Vice-President of EUPRIO from 2015 to 2017. In addition, he was one of the advisors to the Austrian Minister of Science from 2011 to 2013. He is currently managing the 350th anniversary of his university.

In this Masterclass, the anniversaries of the University of La Rioja (2017 - 25 years), the Vienna University of Technology | TU Wien (2015 - 200 years) and the University of Innsbruck (2019 - 350 years) will be presented and discussed.

University of La Rioja (Spain): in 2017, the University of La Rioja celebrated its 25th anniversary. The University of La Rioja was founded in 1992 as a centre devoted to Higher Education, research and cultural promotion. Since the ancient Monasteries of La Rioja (10th century) were the cradle of the first words written in the Spanish language, the University is recognised as a symbol of the identity of its region and the master key for his international promotion. All the actions and events included in the anniversary programme follow this strategy focused on the development of relationships with all the agents in the territory.

Vienna University of Technology | TU Wien (Austria): in 2015, TU Wien celebrated the 200th anniversary of the 1815 founding of k.k. Polytechnisches Institut. To mark this milestone, TUW launched a year-long series of programmes and activities, beginning with the New Year’s Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. The anniversary year also included a full programme of events that characterised the lively intellectual exchanges that flourish at TUW. These included academic events, public lectures, anniversary publication and opera performance.

University of Innsbruck (Austria): the University of Innsbruck is celebrating its 350th anniversary this year. From the very beginning, the approach was to use this anniversary year, under the motto "Together we will build bridges into the future", to strengthen the connection to the people in the city and in the region, and to further increase the visibility of the university. This year's framework consists of five major events (New Year's Reception, Opening Concert Science Festival, Jubilee Week, Future Forum), supplemented by a series of smaller and medium-sized events, many of which bring science into public space. In addition, events and products were conceived whose target groups are the students and employees, in order to take them into the anniversary year very early on and make them ambassadors of the university. A film, various media partnerships and a broad anniversary branding round off the year.
