ETH Zurich and University of Zurich started Scientifica in 2011 as a strategic project – to reduce the barriers of entering a university among the population but also to show politicians the importance of (basic) research
The main goal of the two universities in Zurich at the launch of Scientifica in 2011 was to show how (basic) research shapes society at large and that universities are an important location advantage for Zurich.
We show the development from the written concept over the first improvised festival to the sixth edition of Scientifica in 2019, when we had roughly 25’000 guests.
We discuss the success factors, but also challenges we haven’t solved yet and will address some open questions related to the future of the event.
