Nurse your community! Give them a Facebook-update, and they’ll be happy for a day – teach them how to do it themselves, and they’ll be happy for a lifetime!

Universities engage and communicate with a wide variety of communities and target groups on social media and customise channels accordingly. In this interactive workshop, Ole Frank will explore good practice in the use of Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Youtube and Snapchat to communicate with students, alumni, employees, and other stakeholders. This will include reflections on how the University of Aarhus (AU) customises content for its communities and how it encourages stakeholders to fully engage and to become co-creators.

The workshop will also consider how best to integrate new social media platforms such as Snapchat and Jodel into communications strategies, and will provide examples of how AU uses video as content. Finally, the workshop will discuss the challenges of the ever developing social media landscape – including Facebook’s constant change of algorithms – and how best to adapt to these.
