Katja Maaria Kannonlahti works as Leading Expert in Communications at Tampere University. She has a hands on approach to strategic communications and communicating change. Between 2017-2019 Katja was responsible for communications and marketing while the University of Tampere and Tampere University of Technology merged to create a new Tampere University in 2019. Now the new Tampere University community has more than 35, 000 active students and close to 5, 000 employees.
The University of Tampere and Tampere University of Technology merged at the start of 2019 to form the new Tampere University. Joining forces with Tampere University of Applied Sciences, it has created a new higher education community with more than 30,000 students and nearly 5,000 employees. Mergers are not easy, and this one comes with many valuable lessons-learned.
The objective of this workshop is to help colleagues to communicate change by showcasing the merger of two universities. Mergers are considered to be the ultimate change for many universities. This session offers a hands-on approach to communications and shows the actions taken and the choices made. It will be interactive, with a discussion and possibly even a Kahoot, where the audience can see in real time what everyone else thinks about the questions raised.
