Session introduction

The workshop gives an insight into the working methods of the science department of one of the largest weekly newspapers in Germany. It shows how the way journalists work has changed in the face of the great challenges in science communication.

Session in-depth

The mission for science journalists is centuries old and today more topical than ever. It reads: Enlightenment. DIE ZEIT has given itself this mission. To meet the current challenges in science journalism, a new major department was formed in 2019 from the two sections CHANCEN (education and higher education) and WISSEN (science) - in print, digital and live formats. The motivation of the journalists continues to be constructive doubt. Science journalism finds the underlying cause of things. However, journalistic and publishing formats as well as working methods have changed.

This workshop intends to show how the journalists' daily business has changed, which new formats have been created.

In addition, the interfaces for science communication in universities and research institutions to newspapers will be discussed.
