How to communicate in a crisis? Should you just follow your gut feeling or is there a good practical process you can use? How can you get the right people involved without losing time? What are the responsibilities of the communications team? And how can we prepare for a crisis?
At the University of Antwerp we do not use a specific crisis communications plan but a general crisis communications process instead. This Work Process for Crisis Communications (WPCC) provides the tools and insights needed to get on top of your crisis communications. “We know”, “we do” and “we care” are the basics of this model. In this session the WPCC will be presented using examples from two major crises that took place at the University of Antwerp: a bomb threat involving the overall evacuation of 25,000 people and the national crisis related to the terrorist attack on Brussels Airport and metro.
The workshop will cover the lessons learned and demonstrate how a higher education institute can prepare to act quickly and wisely.
