The EUPRIO Trieste annual Conference on Science Communication has been postponed until next year because of the coronavirus.
This is an update on our news blog, posted on 1 April, which said the conference was being put back from the end of August 2020 until the end of October 2020. But the impact of the virus has meant the face-to-face annual conference can not now take place this year and we now hope it can take place – in Trieste at the end of August 2021.
EUPRIO also hopes to hold a virtual conference at the end of October on the original conference theme of Science Communication. Look out for more information here.

The EUPRIO Trieste 2020 Conference on Science Communication has been postponed because of the coronavirus and we now plan to hold it from Friday 30 October, with a farewell social evening on Sunday 1 November
Details of the new programme for the conference and all the other information is on the website https://www.euprio.eu
Speakers are being contacted to reconfirm their availability and new sessions will be added to look at how we all coped with this crisis and how to communicate science in the middle of a pandemic.
EUPRIO President Jan Dries and Enrico M Balli, Chair of Trieste Conference Scientific Committee have sent a joint email to members, which said: “We know these are distressing times for Europe – and the rest of the world – and we are watching closely as scientists and our own researchers assist their governments and health services to bring this crisis to a conclusion. We are all working hard to find ways to bring higher education into a new mode of distance and online learning, something that will hopefully be a positive outcome for European higher education at the end of this crisis.”
For anyone who has already booked flights and hotel, an official declaration form is available to load at https://www.euprio.eu/annual-conference/registration/ to help with reimbursement.
For the suggested hotels we have been advised there should be no problem, but if you have already booked your room, please remember to confirm the change of your dates as soon as possible, said Paola Scioli from the Italian organising committee.
Registration for the new conference date will be open as soon as the end of the pandemic is in sight, hopefully in June.
“We realise that the new dates are atypical with conference business taking place over the All Saints weekend and in the middle of the academic year, but in the circumstances, this is the best solution and we are grateful for the support and cooperation from the University of Trieste,” said Jan Dries.
EUPRIO will issues updates on the situation via email, the website and through social media.
“Hopefully we can celebrate the end of this crisis together in Trieste. In the meantime, please look after yourself, your friends, and all others around you,” added Enrico.
